Why April, May and June Are the Best-Kept Secret for a Careyes Wedding
Ask anyone when to get married in Careyes and they will tell you November.
They are not wrong. November is extraordinary. It is also the first month every couple asks about, the first to fill, and the one that now requires booking a year and a half in advance to secure.
Here is what almost nobody tells you: the months that follow — and especially April, May and June — are just as extraordinary. Sometimes more. And almost no one is booking them.
This is the part of the calendar we quietly recommend to the couples who ask the right question. Not when does everyone get married in Careyes — but when should we?
April and May — the dry season nobody fights over
The dry season in Careyes runs from November through May. Most couples stop reading at "November." They miss the back half. The back half is glorious.
April and May deliver everything the famous months do: warm days, cool evenings, clear skies, zero rain, and the kind of golden-hour light no photographer can fully prepare for. The Pacific is calm. The casitas glow at dusk. The weather behaves.
The only real difference between a May wedding and a January one is how many other people are trying to have it. In May, the answer is: almost none.
June — the green season begins
June is where Careyes changes costume. The jungle turns from gold to a green that looks almost unreal. The afternoon rains arrive — usually between 3 and 6pm — and then clear, leaving sunsets more saturated and dramatic than any dry-season evening can manage.
June weddings ask for a little more planning — covered spaces, a flexible timeline — and they reward it with some of the most cinematic photographs we have ever produced. And in June, you will very likely be the only wedding on this coast that weekend.
What an open calendar actually gives you
This is the part that matters more than the weather.
When you choose a month the whole world isn't chasing, three things happen.
You get the venues you actually want. The casitas, the villas, the ocean castles — the properties that disappear eighteen months out for peak dates are open, available, and yours to choose from. (If you're still mapping the options, our complete guide to wedding venues in Careyes walks through each one.)
You become the event. We take on only four to six events per year. In an under-booked month, your wedding isn't sharing our attention, the coast's attention, or anyone's — it is the thing happening in Careyes that week.
And the math tends to quietly work in your favor. When you're not competing for the single most requested weekend of the year, the terms — for properties, for vendors, for the whole production — tend to follow. We won't oversell this. We'll only say that the couples who marry in spring rarely feel they paid the premium that November commands.
The honest trade-off
We believe in telling you the whole truth, so here it is.
If your dream is humpback whales breaching offshore during your ceremony, that is December through March — and you should book accordingly. By April, the whales have moved on.
What April through June give you instead is the same perfect coastline, the same extraordinary light, the same Careyes — with room to breathe, room to choose, and the feeling that the entire place is yours. For most couples, that is the better trade. (If you want the full season-by-season breakdown first, we wrote that here.)
Choosing your month
If you want the famous dates and don't mind the wait and the competition — November through January. Book early. Very early.
If you want the same flawless weather without the race — April or May.
If you want lush, green, cinematic and almost entirely your own — June.
We take on four to six events per year. The spring and early-summer dates are, right now, the most available we have. If one of them is calling you, the conversation is worth starting sooner rather than later.
